This is the web page for Warner Preserve, a property owned and permanently preserved by Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy (HTLTC).
This 55-acre parcel of land in Grand Bend is known for its diverse ecosystems including forested sand dunes, swamp forest, river corridor and natural meadow.
Peter and Esther Warner had a vision for this property – to have it restored and protected as a refuge for wildlife and nature, and to be used for outdoor education to foster knowledge and appreciation of nature.
Originally slated for residential development, Peter and his late wife, Esther, had other ideas and approached the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy as a way to make their vision a reality. This land, which was logged in the 1800s and farmed in the 1900s, has now been planted with many native tree species to help accelerate the restoration back to its original state.
The prairie meadow is ideal habitat for pollinator species, birds and other wildlife, while Parkhill Creek, which borders the property, is a natural corridor for various species, and supports fish and mussel populations.
Through the Warners’ vision, this property is ready to be used to educate and inspire the next generation through outdoor education opportunities. The property was donated to the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy in 2023.
As a refuge and protected area, the Warner Preserve will be used for educational activities and events, but will be open to the public by invitation only.
